Micaceous Clay

Micaceous Clay

I’m constantly looking for new techniques for my pottery and I usually end up somewhere I wasn’t looking to go while searching for what I wanted. The internet is full of information, too much if you ask me, and well I end up off task.

But, I came across Felipe Ortega who is an Apache medicine man and a micaceous clay potter.  Here is a YouTube video of the process Micaceous Clay Pottery.

I don’t know how I ended up on his site, but I’m glad I did. Mr. Ortega’s process is intense and it takes a while to make one bowl, but I’m willing to try. I don’t know of anyone that sells the Micaceous clay on the east coast, but I would like to try the process with the clay I have.

Happy Pottery!

“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit” — Aristotle (384 BC – 322 BC) Greek Philosopher
